Consular officers facilitate the serving of legal summons on defendants abroad. They also convey requests for extradition, rogatory letters and evidence on commission between states. Consular Officers also authenticate public documents for use between states. A fee is charged for this service. These documents include: Educational certificates, Employment references, Certificates of origin for goods exported by business, Phytosanitary certificates for raw materials exported ensuring it is not radio-active or contaminated, Police clearance certificates and Medical reports. They provide non-financial assistance to victims of crime abroad. The also provide contact information of local translators (the Consular Officer cannot vouch for the competence of the translator(s) provided)
